My ideas and thoughts around this project evolved continuously. However, midway through this project I
had a solidified understanding of my ideas and what I wanted to communicate through my work. After
visiting Brighton west pier I was inspired by its history and the comparison to how it looks now and what it
once was.
This led me to think about objects that are forgotten once they lose their intended purpose—whether they’re
broken, have lost their owner, or carry emotions that someone no longer wants to face. I wanted to highlight the
sentimental value these objects hold, and the feelings we attach to them, even when they no longer belong to
us. My aim was to encourage the audience to think about the things they might have tucked away in a box, a drawer, or the attic, and to consider why those objects are out of sight. I want them to acknowledge the
emotions these items evoke—whether they are trying to forget something or preserve it
